Can you write about a variety of topics on your blog or should you stick to just one?

If you think about a general interest blog it will probably stick to one subject whether that’s cookery, gardening, soul music or deadstock German training shoes. That’s what the audience wants to read about so bloggers have to keep coming up with new ideas and new information on that theme.

For lawyers and accountants it’s a bit different.

People are using your blog to find out more about the latest on the legal and accounting services your offer. More importantly, they are reading your blog because they want to know about the real life application of those services, about how they can be utilised to make their life or their business better.

And readers don’t know what they don’t know so it’s up to you to cover all the relevant points/areas/topics to fill in the gaps.

This means that when it comes to blogging in the professional services it’s always best to provide content that relates to all of your practice areas. The easiest way to do that is to have a rota that sets out a deadline for each department so the responsibility for keeping your blog updated is spread across the firm and so that the finished articles provide the breadth of coverage your readers need.
